One Hundred Years of Rails on June 24-26, 2010 in Petersburg, WV celebrates the history of the steam locomotive and its impact on the Potomac Highlands, including Hardy County. This event is not an annual celebration, so be sure you don't miss it in 2010. To find lodging for this event at an inn, hotel or motel, please visit our "Lodging" page, and visit the One Hundred Years of Rails web site at www.wvrails2010.com. Annual Poultry Convention and Festival is held the last full week of July and sponsored by the West Virginia Poultry Association. Heritage Weekend is held the last full weekend in September (24-26). Walking tours of Historic districts, historic home tours, living history demonstration, musical entertainment all mark the passing of the summer season. www.heritageweekend.com Santa's North Pole Express held in December. A cooperative effort of the Hardy County Tour and Crafts Association, and the Potomac Eagle, this special holiday journey promises a story time featuring the popular "The Polar Express", hot chocolate and cookies, and a visit from Santa himself! Children can also bring along a copy of the book if they wish. The train is scheduled to depart from the Jefferson Street Crossing in Moorefield at 5:00 pm and again at 7:30 pm each day. Boarding will begin about 30 minutes prior to departure. Of course, the Conductor will do his best to keep the train on time for this whimsical journey to the North Pole!
